Luke 9:18-27

TBQ: Why should you follow Christ?

1. Follow Jesus because of who he is.
   • Jesus’s identity is not imposed by the beliefs of the crowd.
   • Our obedience to Jesus is rooted in his identity.
     • Note that the disciples recognized him IN PRAYER.
2. Follow Jesus because of what he has done.
   • Jesus came to die and be resurrected.
   • Follow Jesus because he overcame death, hell, and the grave.
3. Follow Jesus because of what you will receive.
   • Obedience must be rooted in belief.
     • If we have to take up our cross daily, we must invest in our belief daily…there is no replacement for regularly spending quiet time in God’s word.
   • The weight of the cross is lightened by the promise of eternity.

CONCLUSION: Will you take up your cross today?
