Do you believe God can do as he wills? Most everyone would claim to believe that, but few of us regularly address Jesus as the leper in 5:12-16. This man didn’t say to Jesus, “If you can, will you make me clean?” Instead, he begged, “If you will, you can.”
The faith of a leper.
- God can do anything he wills.
- The outcasts of the world are welcomed at the feet of Jesus.
- Leviticus 13 and 14 give laws for how leprosy was to be handled among the people of Israel. Two full chapters.
- Leviticus 13:45-46 gives specific instructions for how a person was to carry themselves if they were leprous. Essentially, they were supposed to make it obvious to everyone around that they had leprosy.
- (They were lepers, not merely people with leprosy) Their leprosy was their primary identity.
- NO MATTER HOW YOU IDENTIFY OR HOW THE WORLD SEES YOU, THERE IS ROOM AT THE FEET OF JESUS FOR YOU.
The touch of the Master.
- Jesus touched the leper’s skin and healed his soul.
- Jesus takes our uncleanness on himself and makes us clean.
The report of the Savior.
- A redeemed life is not free of obligation.
- A changed life is evidence of a willing savior.
- Your testimony may be your calling.
