He Can! Luke 5:12-16

Do you believe God can do as he wills? Most everyone would claim to believe that, but few of us regularly address Jesus as the leper in 5:12-16. This man didn’t say to Jesus, “If you can, will you make me clean?” Instead, he begged, “If you will, you can.”

The faith of a leper.

  1. God can do anything he wills.
  2. The outcasts of the world are welcomed at the feet of Jesus.
    • Leviticus 13 and 14 give laws for how leprosy was to be handled among the people of Israel. Two full chapters.
    • Leviticus 13:45-46 gives specific instructions for how a person was to carry themselves if they were leprous. Essentially, they were supposed to make it obvious to everyone around that they had leprosy.
    • (They were lepers, not merely people with leprosy) Their leprosy was their primary identity.
    • NO MATTER HOW YOU IDENTIFY OR HOW THE WORLD SEES YOU, THERE IS ROOM AT THE FEET OF JESUS FOR YOU.

The touch of the Master.

  1. Jesus touched the leper’s skin and healed his soul.
  2. Jesus takes our uncleanness on himself and makes us clean.

The report of the Savior.

  1. A redeemed life is not free of obligation.
  2. A changed life is evidence of a willing savior.
  3. Your testimony may be your calling.
